<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a basal metabolism modulator producing modulating actions on basal metabolism by ingestion in a relatively short period of time. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The basal metabolism modulator comprises three kinds of phthalide derivatives of a first phthalide derivative represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R1 represents a 1C-3C alkoxy group), and other two kinds of phthalide derivatives added thereto as an active ingredient.
