PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve the problem that when print density per one line is high and temperature of a thermal head is low, a paper sheet sticks to the thermal head and degrades print quality. SOLUTION: The thermal printer includes the thermal head having a plurality of linearly disposed heat generating elements; a head driving circuit selectively charging energy to each of the heat generating elements; a motor removing the paper sheet for printing by bringing the heat generating elements into contact with the paper sheet; a motor drive circuit driving the motor in a plurality of steps in the period of drawing one line by charging energy to each of the heat generating elements; a print density calculation means calculating the print density from printing data; a temperature detection means detecting the temperature of the thermal head; and a charging energy determining means for determining the charged energy to the heat generation elements of the thermal head at the respective steps according to a set condition determined based on the print density and the temperature.
