The vehicle has an electric motor (4) i.e. starter, temporarily supplied with electrical energy from a power source (8). The electric motor is temporarily connected with a secondary device (10) e.g. steering assistance pump, by a power transmission device (28) for driving the secondary device. An output shaft (3) of an internal combustion engine (2) is connected with a drive shaft (5) of the electric motor in a rotatory manner by a coupling device (16). The coupling device enables temporary mechanical driving of the electric motor by the internal combustion engine. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle.
