The head (1) has a cutting box (5) provided for cutting staples (6) into sections. A holding-down clamp (3) positions and/or fixes an impression place of the staples regarding printed products to be stapled. The holding-down clamp and the cutting box are provided on the same side of the head, where the holding-down clamp is provided below the cutting box. The box has a recess for accommodating a part of the clamp. A lateral attaching and/or lateral drive device is provided in the holding-down clamp. An independent claim is also included for a stapler comprising a saddle.
