<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming apparatus in which input keys can be increased while suppressing vibration from being transported to an image reading section and suppressing the image reader from being upsized. <P>SOLUTION: The image reader 10 includes an image reading section 20, a frame 30, and an operating unit 40. The frame 30 supports the image reading section 20. The operating unit 40 includes: a keyboard 43 including a plurality of input keys 431 for accepting input operation for controlling the image reading section 20; and an operating unit body 41 supporting a keyboard tray 42 so as to freely displace the keyboard tray between a pull-out position, at which the input keys 431 are exposed outside, and a housing position at which the input keys are housed inside.
