<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of expensiveness and poor efficiency in a conventional fixing device provided with a fixing roller heated by a heater to fix a toner image formed on a transfer material, which is adapted to hold and carry the transfer material between a pressure roller and the fixing roller or to pressurize the transfer material by use of the fixing roller and an endless belt laid over a plurality of rollers or by use of the fixing roller heated by the heater and electromagnetic wave or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fixing device comprises a fixing roller, and an elastic U-shaped thin sheet which holds the transfer material with the fixing roller to fix the toner image formed on the transfer material. According to this, the transfer material can be surely fitted to the fixing roller by using the restoration force of the elastic sheet, and a reduced pressing force and an extended nip width can be attained. Consequently, the component cost and the man-hours for assembling can be reduced, and this device has high efficiency and can be applied to a high-speed ink jet printer.
