PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a gas spring in the axial direction, to improve assemblability, to reduce the number of parts, and to ensure durability of a packing. SOLUTION: A rod sliding hole 7 is provided in one end of a cylinder body 3 of the gas spring, and a gas operating chamber 5 filled with compressed gas is formed by the cylinder body and a piston member 4. A sleeve member 10 with at least one fit and fixed part, the packing 15 sealing an outer circumference side of the piston member, and a synthetic resin guide ring 20 guiding the piston member are provided in the one end of the cylinder body. The guide ring 20 is formed in a cross-sectionally L-shape by an annular backup part 20a with the same axial thickness and the same width as the packing and abutting on an opposite side face in an opposite side of a gas pressure exerted face of the packing to back up the packing, and a cylindrical guide part 20b extending in an opposite direction of the packing from an inner end of the backup part and fit on the piston member.
