A power unit adapted for use in a two-wheeled motor vehicle and having a breather device emits less transmission noise. A breather device (9) has a communicating path (50) for interconnecting the inside and outside of a gear case (30). The communicating path (50) is provided with a cartridge (51) having an inserting opening (51b) and also with a hose (52). At least a part of the hose (52) is located outside the gear case (30), and the hose (52) has a receiving opening (52a) into which the inserting opening (51b) is inserted. A filter (42) is provided in the hose (52).
