PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the placement resistance of a successive steel sheet pile when the successive steel sheet pile is to be placed in the ground as fitting a joint part of the successive steel sheet pile in a joint part of a preceding steel sheet pile, reduce the complication of placing work, and lower increases in placing costs. SOLUTION: In a method for placing steel sheet piles, the preceding steel sheet pile 10P is placed in the ground 26, the joint part 16 of the successive steel sheet pile 10F is thereafter fitted in the joint part 16 of the preceding steel sheet pile 10P, and the successive steel sheet pile 10F is place in the ground 26 as supplying a fluid F such as water for the inside of a pocket groove formed on the side of the inner surface of the joint part 16 in the successive steel sheet pile 10F. It is thereby possible to discharge, from the inside of the joint part 16, earth, sand, etc. which have intruded in the joint part 16 of the preceding steel sheet pile 10P due to the pressure of the fluid F flowing from a lower end part of the pocket groove of the successive steel sheet pile 10F and prevent the intrusion of earth, sand, etc. in the joint part 16 of the successive steel sheet pile 10F.
