<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide steam inlet structure for a steam turbine capable of maintaining the channel resistance of steam to the minimum by smoothly changing the shape of the area of a steam inlet passage, achieved in low-cost manufacturing, and performing selection according to the height of a steam inlet pipe, in a steam turbine of a side inlet system. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This steam inlet structure for the steam turbine includes a cylindrical inner casing storing a turbine rotor rotatably driven in its inside and a cylindrical outer casing covering the outer side of the inner casing through a steam passage, and is configured so that steam passing through the steam inlet passage is introduced from the side of the outer casing into the inner casing through the steam inlet passage. The steam inlet passage is formed into an integrally formed pipe whose cross-sectional shape on the side of the steam inlet passage is formed into a circular pipe shape which is changed to an elliptical pipe or an oblong pipe as it approaches the side of the inner casing, and has the same cross-sectional area in the whole cross-sectional area.
