The indicating device (1) has a pictogram representation unit (4), where the difference between the actual speed and the target speed is representable with a changeable graphical symbol with the representation unit. A control unit (5) is provided for changing the graphical symbol. The control unit is formed such that the changeable graphical symbol is changed in one of the characteristic colors, shapes, sizes or positions of the graphical symbol depending on the size of the difference. An independent claim is included for a method for representating speed difference in a motor vehicle.
