The device (1) has a control valve (5) for controlling a hydraulic phase adjuster (4). A servo valve (16) e.g. shift valve, is connected upstream to the control valve. The servo valve is switched between an active adjustment of the phase adjuster by a pressure generating conveying device (12) and a passive adjustment by cam shaft alternation moments. A connector (17.1) of the servo valve is connected with the conveying device over a pressure pipe, and another connector (17.2) is connected with a container (13).
