A method for transmitting high resolution video data and a digital broadcasting receiver are provided to enable the digital broadcasting receiver connected with a video output device to output high resolution video data through an SCART cable, thereby removing the need of a special cable and accordingly providing a user with convenience. A method for transmitting high resolution video data comprises the following steps of: determining whether a video output device supports high resolution video output corresponding to a component mode(415,420); generating high resolution video data where SOG(Sync-On-Green) is applied to horizontal resolution, vertical resolution and synchronization information, if so(430); and outputting the high resolution video data through an SCART connector.
