<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of abrasion in a valve element to long-term use of a scavenging air valve. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This stratified scavenging carburetor is provided by interposing washers 18a and 18b between E rings and respective opposed wall surfaces 13a and 13b opposed to the respective E rings in a body 13 for the air valve, by installing the respective E rings 12 and 17 in both end parts in the axial direction of an air valve stem 7a. Since displacement in the axial direction of the air valve stem is regulated when both retaining rings abut on mutually opposing both opposed wall surfaces of the body for the air valve, for example, when installed with a tolerance, the displacement becomes small displacement by its tolerance, and large displacement of the valve element in an air passage is prevented even if vibration of an engine is caused, and the abrasion between the valve element and the air passage is reduced, and the useful life is also largely lengthened.
