<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll for a hot dip metal plating bath, which is smoothly rotated and prevents the slip flaws of a steel sheet by swiftly exhausting dross intruded in a space with the steel sheet, and to provide a method for producing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The surface of a roll 1 is provided with continuous elongating grooves 2 with a depth of 0.05 to 1 mm, the elongating grooves are mutually parallel at a pith of 0.5 to 3 mm and have an inclination angle of ±20° to the barrel length direction of the roll, and the ratio of the area S<SB>C</SB>of a cylindrical curved face part other than the elongating grooves in the surface of the roll to the total area of the surface of the roll S<SB>R</SB>=S<SB>C</SB>+S<SB>D</SB>as the total of the area S<SB>C</SB>(mm<SP>2</SP>) of the cylindrical curved face part 3 and the area S<SB>D</SB>(mm<SP>2</SP>) of the opening parts of the elongating grooves, Q=100×S<SB>C</SB>/S<SB>R</SB>is controlled in a range of 25 to 70%.
