<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for deuterating a heterocyclic ring-bearing compound, deuterating position-selectively the heterocyclic ring constituting the compound in high deuterating rate without using any reducing reagent for deuteration, as a method for obtaining a deuterated heterocyclic ring-bearing compound useful for elucidating in vivo kinetics, various physiological activity action mechanisms, etc. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The new method for deuterating a heterocyclic ring-bearing compound is characterized by comprising reacting a reducing agent on the compound in a deuterated solvent to substitute deuterium(s) for radical reaction-active functional group(s) on the heterocyclic ring constituting the compound.
