<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flexible workflow architecture. <P>SOLUTION: This multi-layer workflow architecture for a print shop includes a workflow front-end, a service bus, and service providers 111-114. In operation, the service provider reports device capabilities for devices to a service bus 122. The workflow front-end 132 receives the device capabilities from the service bus, and provides the device capabilities to a user to allow the user to define a job ticket based on the device capabilities. The service bus identifies the processes defined in the job ticket, and identifies the service provider operable to provide the processes.
