<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle image-recording device which is low in price, detects the occurrence of a traffic accident, and stores, as an image, a traveling record until the accident occurs, and to provide a method for the device. <P>SOLUTION: When power supply is made to an image-pickup device, start-up processing is carried out (S1). Then, markers arranged in a vehicle are recognized from an image obtained by the image-pickup device, and templates are generated (S2), and then recording is started (S3). The storage area provided in the image-pickup device is divided into a memory (A) and a memory (B). A picked-up image is first written to the memory (A) (S4). When the memory (A) becomes full (S5), a picked-up image is written to the memory (B) (S6). Then, when the memory (B) becomes full (S8), it is switched to the memory (A) (S9). It is detected whether a vehicle receives impact of at least prescribed strength (S11); when the vehicle has not receive an impact of at least a prescribed strength, the recording continues.
