<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a malfunction of a fall sensor mounted on an HDD (Hard Disk Drive) more surely. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The HDD 1 includes two sensors: the fall sensor 26 and a shock sensor 25. The HDC(Hard Disk Controller)/MPU 23 tests the fall sensor 26, and refers to the output of the shock sensor 25 in the test. When shocks are detected during the test of the fall sensor 26, the HDC/MPU 23 retries testing the fall sensor 26, whereby the HDC/MPU 23 accurately tests the fall sensor 26 to prevent a malfunction thereof.
