<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact image sensor in a plate shape wherein a casing illuminating an object to be irradiated and a casing for image-forming optical information incident from the object to be irradiated can be separated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image sensor includes: a light source which radiates light over a main scanning direction; a light transmission body to which light from the light source is made incident, and which transmits the light in a sub scanning direction and irradiates an irradiation part of an object to be irradiated with light fully reflected on an emission surface; an image forming means comprising a lens for converging scattered light of light reflected on the object to be irradiated; a light receiving section for receiving light converged by the image forming means; and a casing housing or holding the light source, the light transmission body, the image forming means and the light receiving section.
