The method involves charging an energy storage (13) by an electronic charger (12). A receiving station (20) is arranged in a vehicle (1). The electronic charger of a remote control unit (10) is coupled with another electronic charger (22) of the receiving station by an interface (25) to load the energy storage of the remote control unit. The remote control unit is switched for protecting energy storage (13) in different operating conditions when a coupling between two electronic chargers is detected. A basic functionality of a vehicle is executed in a given operating condition. An independent claim is also included for a remote control unit for operating a remote control of a vehicle function.
