PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase orders for boosting processing. SOLUTION: For determining features of an image, a feature quantity of each feature point is calculated using a total of 40 Gabor filters adapting 8 kinds of directions and 5 kinds of frequencies. Particularly, in determination of features of a facial image, frequencies and direction parameters necessary for describing the features are varied depending on the positions of feature points, and unnecessary parameters may exist in respective feature points. The frequency band and direction necessary for the feature points can be assumed to be located within a continuous range. Therefore, it is suitable to determine some combinations of local feature quantities by selecting, from a feature dimension in which a part of the feature quantities obtained by the 40 Gabor filters is arranged for each scale or direction, rectangular areas of optional positions and sizes such as rectangles 131, 132, 133, and the like.
