PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the presence/absence of an original even for a color original. SOLUTION: A color reader determines an original size in a main scan direction while a read means moves. In order to determine the size of the original in the main scan direction, the image processor comprises: an original detection means for determining the presence/absence of the original from color image data of a plurality of rectangular regions at specified positions on an original platen read by the read means; an average value calculation means for calculating an average value for the respective components of the color image data within a rectangle read by the original detection means; a binarization means for executing binarization processing to the average value of the average value calculation means; and a determination means for determining the presence/absence of the original from the result of the binarization means.
