<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new transparent film base having excellent solvent resistance and flaw resistance, with a small number of interference spots and suitable for display. <P>SOLUTION: A transparent film base for display has a gas barrier layer and a solvent-resistant protective layer made of a curable resin and with a film thickness of 0.01-20 μm on at least one face of a polymer film with a total light transmittance of at least 80%. The solvent-resistant protective layer is brought into contact with the polymer film, and when the refractive index of the solvent-resistant protective layer is n<SB>1</SB>and the refractive index of the polymer film is n<SB>2</SB>, the transparent film base satisfies equation (a): |n<SB>2</SB>-n<SB>1</SB>|≤0.02 (wherein the refractive indexes n<SB>1</SB>and n<SB>2</SB>are indexes to a wave length of 589 nm of a sodium D ray at 25°C). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
