PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing strontium carbonate fine particles which have orientation birefringence, high crystallinity, an acicular or rod-like shape and a small average value of their major axes and are less prone to agglomeration. SOLUTION: First, a substance containing strontium ions, such as strontium nitrate, and a substance containing a carbonate ion precursor such as urea are completely dissolved in a mixed solvent comprising water and ethylene glycol kept at a certain temperature, e.g. 5°C. Then, a crystal growth controlling agent such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone is added to the reaction solution. Subsequently, urease which is a hydrolase is added, and the reaction solution is stirred with a stirrer to achieve hydrolysis of urea, production of carbonate ions and deposition of strontium carbonate fine particles through reactions (1): (NH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>2</SB>CO+H<SB>2</SB>O→2NH<SB>3</SB>+CO<SB>2</SB>, (2): 2NH<SB>3</SB>+CO<SB>2</SB>+H<SB>2</SB>O→2NH<SB>4</SB><SP>+</SP>+CO<SB>3</SB><SP>2-</SP>and (3): Sr<SP>2+</SP>+CO<SB>3</SB><SP>2-</SP>→SrCO<SB>3</SB>.
