PURPOSE: A multi-carrier transmitter and a method thereof are provided to reduce complexity and overhead by selecting a different modulation mode to a subcarrier according to a channel environment. CONSTITUTION: A modulation mode selecting part(10) receives a channel environment value through a feedback channel from a receiver(2). The modulation mode selecting part selects a modulation mode which determines a bit number assigned to a subcarrier based on the channel environment value. The modulation mode selecting part selects a modulation mode which determines a bit number assigned to a subcarrier based on an error rate. A bit assigning part(11) assigns the bit number to each subcarrier according to the selected modulation mode. A sub-block setting part(12) determines a modulation mode by binding adjacent subcarriers into a sub-block. A demodulator(21) demodulates a signal transmitted from a transmitter(1) according to the modulation mode. A channel environment value calculating part(22) calculates a channel environment value by using the demodulated signal.
