PURPOSE: A servo pattern overhead optimizing method and a disk drive using the same for increasing data storage space of a disk are provided to increase data storage space and execute the read/write of data by selectively inserting an area allocated in a servo sector to a data storage area. CONSTITUTION: A servo pattern overhead optimizing method and a disk drive using the same for increasing data storage space of a disk measure the number of servo sectors storing correction code information(S502). An allocation area in a tack which the number of measured servo sectors is smaller than critical value is changed into a data storage area(S507).
