The matrix lighting system comprises an array of lighting sources that are activated by a power supply system provided with a processing means. It also comprises at least one camera and an object having marks characterizing the position and the orientation of the object in space, an area to be lit being designated according to the orientation of the object, the camera capturing the images of the object and transmitting them to the processing means which compute the space coordinates of the marks, the power supply system activating the lighting sources according to the position and the orientation of the object that are defined by the marks. The invention applies notably to shadowless lamps meeting the lighting requirements in the medical field.
