PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gap filling instrument for a tatami mat capable of easily and accurately adjusting the gap between the tatami mat and a wall. SOLUTION: A linear holdingly fitting member for an adjusting a variation in the widths of gaps includes a stacked structure formed of a plurality of layers compressible and recoverable in the lateral direction. The first layer is an elastic layer 6 made of a material having a rubber elasticity which has a width and an elasticity capable of sufficiently exhibiting the holdingly fitting force to a tatami mat. The second layer is a width adjusting layer 4 which contains a large number of continuous bubbles and which is made of a soft material compressible easier than the first layer, and which has a sufficient width for adjusting the gap between the wall and the tatami mat or the gap between the tatami mats. In the entire stacked structure, a compression ratio against a compressive stress is large until the continuous bubbles are collapsed, and small after the continuous bubbles are collapsed completely.
