PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for an organic electroluminescent device, capable of obtaining a highly efficient, long life organic electroluminescent device having the excellent dissolvability to a solvent. SOLUTION: The material for the organic electroluminescent device is a compound as an aromatic condensation polycyclic hydrocarbon derivative (1) having a diphenylamino group, selected from the group consisting of a chrysenyl group, a phenanthrenyl group, a pyrenyl group and a benzophenanthrenyl group, having a solubility to toluene of 1 wt.% or more.
