<p>A method and apparatus for processing data packets 20 comprises creating a first data packet at a control element 30 the data of the packet indicating a source 21-23 of the data packet different from the control element and a tag value 24 indicating that the first packet was created by the control element. The data packet will preferably include a destination. In a preferred embodiment the packet is a PCI-Express data packet. The tag value may be in a specified range defined with reference to data stored at the control element or at the first source. A second packet may be received at the control element in response to the transmission of the first packet. The second packet may be forwarded to the control element if an only if the packet was generated in response to a first packet generated by the control element. Alternatively, if no indication data is present the packet is forward direct to the destination. The control element may be a virtualisation proxy controller.</p> |
