A blade 14 for an underwater turbine has an inner void and a foam material 30, 32, located therein. The blade may comprise first and second skins between which the foam material extends. The foam material may substantially fill the inner void. Alternatively the foam material may only partially fill the void. In some arrangements, the foam material may extend only partially from the blade tip to the blade root to leave a space which may be divided into regions by one or more bulkheads, the regions having means for enabling them to be flooded or drained. In other arrangements, the foam material may be in the form of ribs separated by gaps.
