PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of properly aligning an image formed on paper. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a photoreceptor 4A carrying an image to be transferred to the paper 10, a transfer part 5A provided to be opposed to the photoreceptor 4A, and a sensor 14A detecting that the paper has reached on an upstream side of a nip part between the photoreceptor 4A and the transfer part 5A. A writing part 16A starts writing the image before performing detection by the sensor 14A. On the basis of results of detection by the sensor 14A, positional relation between the image written on the photoreceptor and the paper is corrected.
