<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor for an IPM motor which has predetermined torque performance due to an increased torque value per unit magnet amount of embedded permanent magnets, and which is manufactured at the lowest cost. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rotor 10 for the IPM motor is structured with a plurality of permanent magnets 2, ... embedded in a rotor core 1. The thickness of the permanent magnets 2 is configured to become thinner in plan view from the front side of the rotating direction of the rotor 10 toward the rear side of the rotating direction. When two permanent magnets 31, 32 form a pole in a roughly V shape in plan view spreading out from a rotating shaft of the rotor toward the stator side, the thickness in plan view of the permanent magnet 32 toward the rear side of the rotating direction of the rotor is made smaller than that of the permanent magnet 31 on the front side of the rotating direction.
