<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce image data as continuous motion pictures and also to record image data that can be reproduced or captured as a still picture which conforms to a desired image capture conditions. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image recording and reproducing apparatus records the image data shot at a frame rate higher than a normal reproduction rate employed during reproduction of a moving image, attaches still image recording information, associated with partial frame images included in the recorded image data, and can generate a still image, by combining a plurality of frame images of the recorded image data, in conformity with the recorded still image recording information.
