<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a driver's troublesomeness such that an engine of vehicle is eventually stopped under a driver's unintended situation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In an idling stop device for automatically stopping an engine of vehicle, if it is determined that a vehicle has stopped owing to waiting for the change of a traffic signal, the device prohibits the engine of vehicle from stopping, if it is determined that the vehicle has stopped on a uphill road (S102:YES), if it is determined that the vehicle has stopped in order to turn to the right or to the left at a place where no signal exists (S104:YES), and if it is determined that the vehicle has stopped at a parking space (S106:YES).
