<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve convenience and to suppress standby power. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A main switching part 13 and a storage part switching part 15 are controlled by a power source management part 23, and thereby the recording/reproducing device 10 is controlled in three power supply states: a first standby state, a second standby state larger in power consumption than the first standby state, and a normal start state larger in power consumption than the second standby state. A standby part 20 is provided with a clock part 21, a history storage part 22 for storing the history of normal start time, a power source management part 23 for controlling a power source part 11, and the like. The power source management part 23 predicts, based on the history of time when transition to the normal start state stored in the history storage part 22 is started, time when a user gives an instruction of a normal start to the recording/reproducing device 10, determines time little before this time as preparation start time for a next normal start, and changes from the first standby state to the second standby state at this preparation start time.
