<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide glass having extremely high absorption capacity in an infrared range even if being thinned since infrared absorption capacity required for an infrared cut filter is high accompanied with the increase in the precision and compaction of an optical apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Disclosed is infrared absorption glass obtained by incorporating a CoO component into glass comprising a P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>component of 25 to 65 mass% in terms of oxide and a CuO component. Since the content of the P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>component can be reduced compared with the conventional infrared absorption glass, the glass has satisfactory weatherability, and has excellent infrared absorption capacity that transmittance of light with a wavelength of 700 nm is <7%, transmittance of light with a wavelength of 780 to 1,000 is <1%, transmittance of light with a wavelength of 1,100 nm is <3% and transmittance of light with a wavelength of 1,200 nm is <5%.
