<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to set up freely an apparatus having a redundancy switching function irrespective of a distance from a plurality of media transmission apparatuses without using an exclusive signal line for redundancy switching. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The media multiplex transmission system includes a plurality of media transmission apparatuses which encode at least image and voice, generate abnormal detection data on abnormality due to image or voice encoding, and then generate a transmission stream by multiplexing the image, voice, and abnormal detection data; and multiplexing equipment which separates images, voices, abnormal detection data respectively received from the transmission stream of the plurality of media transmission apparatuses through each line, compares the abnormal detection data between the separated plurality of media transmission apparatuses, selects image and voice data from the media transmission apparatuses whose transmission condition is good, generates a transmission stream by multiplexing again the selected image and voice data, and then transmits the resulting transmission stream to a media receiver through a line other than the above line.
