The device has a sensor element for detecting an image in a visible spectral region, and another sensor element for detecting another image in a non-visible spectral region e.g. remote infrared region. An object recognition device (110) detects an object of a preset object class in an image region based on the former image. A validation device (113) checks whether the object and/or a preset character e.g. contour, of the object is detected in the image region in the latter image, and determines reliability of the object detection depending on the result of the checking. An independent claim is also included for a method for recognition of objects.
