<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter substrate having an optical compensation capability, for solving a phase difference problem which is caused in multi-color display by a liquid crystal display, and to provide a method for easily manufacturing the color filter substrate with high quality. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a retardation substrate includes steps of applying a solution including a thermotropic liquid crystalline compound over a substrate to form a thin film with the liquid crystalline compound being aligned in a predetermined direction; performing light irradiation to the liquid crystalline compound so that the irradiation quantity is differed from area to area; heating the substrate to an isotropic phase transition temperature of the liquid crystalline compound or higher; and exposing the whole surface of the substrate while maintaining a temperature at which the liquid crystalline compound is held in the isotropic phase. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
