<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device having a plurality of openings for emitting light, without requiring increase in the size of a casing or in the number of parts. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Light emitted from an LED 28 arrives a sheet metal member 26 provided in an opening 253 in a rear case 25 through a light guide plate 24 and is reflected toward a rear plate 21. A part of the reflected light is emitted outside by a half mirror in an end region 211 of the rear plate 21, while the remaining part is reflected and guided toward a front case 30. The light transmitted to the inside of a first casing 101 is emitted outside from a surface on the front case 30 side (the surface of the liquid crystal side) of the first casing 101 through an opening 291 provided in a circuit board 29 and an opening 301 provided in the front case 30.
