<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to shield the intense light of an arc and to increase shielding effect in a weld zone when a base is circumferentially welded to the top plate of a drum or the like in an atmosphere of a shielding gas by an arc. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fixture unit 2, which is used when a base 51 is circumferentially welded to the peripheral part of the opening 50a of the top plate 50 of a drum or the like, is composed of: the lower fixture 2' supporting the top plate 50 and the base 51; and the upper fixture 2'' holding and fixing the vicinity of the peripheral part of the opening 50a of the top plate 50 with the lower fixture 2'. The upper fixture 2'' is composed of: the annular upper clamp 16 abutted on the vicinity of the peripheral part of the opening 50a of the top plate 50; and a disk-shaped cover body 17 horizontally rotatably arranged inside the upper clamp 16, having a hole 17a for torch insertion into which the tip part of a torch 28 for welding is inserted, and forming a shielding gas space S for storing the shielding gas G released from the torch 28 for welding around a welding part between the top plate 50 and the base 51.
