<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a psychological state estimation apparatus for highly accurately estimating the psychological state of a driver. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The psychological state estimation apparatus 1 for estimating the psychological state of the driver of a vehicle is characterized by comprising a driving state obtaining means 4, an external event obtaining means 2 about the vehicle, a desire state detecting means 5 according to the driving state obtained by the driving state obtaining means 4, a desire inhibition level obtaining means 6 for obtaining the inhibition level to the desire state of the driver from the desire state of the driver detected by the desire state detecting means 5 and the external event obtained by the external event obtaining means 2, and an estimation means 9 for estimating the psychological state of the driver from the inhibition level to the desire state obtained by the desire inhibition obtaining means 6.
