<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of suppressing wrinkling of a recording medium in the process of passing it through a fixing nip part, and an image forming apparatus using the fixing device. <P>SOLUTION: The fixing device 100 includes: a fixing belt 12 provided to be rotatable; a pressing roller 13 which contacts with the fixing belt 12 to form a fixing nip part N therebetween; side plates 17a and 17b supporting the fixing belt 12 and the pressing roller 13; a drive input gear 19a supported by a support shaft 18c provided on the side plate 17a, the gear receiving an external driving force and directly or indirectly transmitting the driving force to the fixing belt 12; and position reference members 18a and 18b supported by an image forming apparatus body when the fixing device 100 is installed in the image forming apparatus body.
