<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent capable of providing a liquid crystal alignment layer excellent in heat resistance, and ensuring excellent printing performance and sufficient film thickness uniformity in the resulting film without the occurrence of bubbles during application thereof. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent comprises at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of a polyamic acid obtained by reacting tetracarboxylic acid with a diamine containing a compound represented by formula (A), wherein R<SP>I</SP>and R<SP>II</SP>each independently represent a 1-30C alkyl group, and a polyimide obtained by dehydration ring closure of the polyamic acid.
