<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a display method, clearly indicating the position of light applied to a screen by an instructing device irradiating light. <P>SOLUTION: A light receiving waveform determination unit 21 determines an outgoing pattern of light emitted from a light emission instructing device 30. A central processing unit 15 copies reference coordinate data on a square shape and a medium size to coordinate data of the instruction pointer data PointInf when the determination result of the light receiving waveform determination unit 21 is a pulse-like outgoing pattern, and copies reference coordinate data on a circular shape and a large size to coordinate data of the instruction pointer data PointInf when it is not a pulse-like outgoing pattern, that is, a continuous outgoing pattern.
