<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a power supply apparatus for appropriately preventing excess current and reducing power consumption during function standby. <P>SOLUTION: Only a second relay-type switch 3b is closed and power is supplied to a power factor improving circuit 7 through a restriction resistor 4. Thus, excess current during power supply is prevented. When excess current disappears, a first relay-type switch 3a and a third relay-type switch 3c are closed with the second relay-type switch 3b closed as it is. Power is supplied by full wave rectification.
