<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye composition having liquid crystallinity and high dichroism. <P>SOLUTION: The dichroic dye composition has liquid crystallinity and contains at least one azo dye represented by general formula (I), wherein R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>, R<SB>3</SB>, R<SB>4</SB>, X<SB>1</SB>, X<SB>2</SB>are each independently a hydrogen atom or a substituent, A<SB>1</SB>is a phenyl group, a naphthyl group, or an aromatic heterocyclic group which may have a substituent, B<SB>1</SB>is a bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group or a bivalent aromatic heterocyclic group which may have a substituent, and n is an integer of 1-5, provided that at least one of B<SB>1</SB>is a phenylene group having an alkyl group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
