<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust device for an internal combustion engine, capable of compatibly providing temperature raise effect of an EGR catalyst and inhibition of deterioration of fuel economy, when the temperature of the EGR catalyst purifying exhaust gas in an EGR passage of the internal combustion engine, having a plurality of cylinders is to be raised. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The exhaust device 100 for the internal combustion engine is provided with the EGR catalyst 52 for purifying exhaust gas flowing in the EGR passage 51, providing communication between an intake passage 3 and an exhaust passage 4 of the internal combustion engine 1 equipped with the plurality of cylinders, and executes EGR catalyst temperature increase control that increases the temperature of the EGR catalyst. The device is provided with a control means 20, alternately executing a control for making the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas of a specific cylinder 2a among the plurality of cylinders 2 lean and a control for making the ratio rich, when EGR catalyst temperature increase control is executed, and has a connection part 55 which connects to the EGR passage in the exhaust passage, on the upstream side of a merging part 43 where a second passage 4b for making the exhaust gas from cylinders other than the specific cylinder flow in a first passages 4a, 40 connected to the specific cylinder and making the exhaust gas from the specific cylinder flow merge.
